Important: MS SQL Server Trusted Zone

Hello All,
As of late last night we are now running a trusted zone on both MS SQL servers on the firewall.

If you need access to MS SQL via Enterprise Manager then please email support @ stormhosts.net with your IP. Also if you could CC staff @ stormhosts.net on this reply also, so that we can compare your IP with the one in your email header. We have a few users who are going through a proxy at their ISP and the IP they send isnt their actual IP.

Please also let us know if your IP is static or dynamic and if dynamic then a range would be helpful so that we can allow a range of IP's in for you.

The reason for this is that MS SQL servers are often a target for scripts trying to break passwords. They log in, sometimes 100s of login attempts per second to try break passwords and gain access. This has now caused a big list of black listed IP's to be generated and decreased performance of the servers. We have now put this trusted zone in place which will prevent these attacks from reaching the server and this has already increased server performance immensely.

Hello,

Do you have a local firewall? If so, you may need to open the port(s) for MS SQL? If this is not the issue, your best bet is to probably contact your ISP and seek assistance as they may have a firewall in place.

Hope you have this solved and best wishes.
