Full text catalogs

Hi. Does the server support full text search? In SQL manager I can only find "refresh" if I right click Full Text Catalogs.

Hello neitakk,

Yes, all of our MS SQL Servers support Full-Text Search.

Is this for MS SQL 2000 or 2005? For MS SQL 2000, we will need to first create the Full-Text Catalog(s).

HTH and best wishes.

This is for MS SQL 2005. Actually my database was converted from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005, so Helm still says it's 2000. Is this something you have to create, or can it be created from SQL Server Management?

Hello neitakk,

On our MS SQL 2005 servers, all dBs are created w/ full-text indexing enabled for the dB.

I believe this may be a limit on the tool you are using. If you are using Microsoft's SQL Server Management Studio Express, this tool does not support updating/managing Full Text Catalogs and only the Refresh command is available.

Best wishes.

Thanks. I installed Mssql 2005 Enterprise Manager, and then there was more options. But on the creation of a full text catalog, I recieved this error: "Full-Text Search is not enabled for the current database. Use SP_fulltext_database to enable Full-Text Search for the database. The functionality to disable and enable full-text search for a database is deprecated. Please change your application (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 7616)

Edit: I guess I have to specify full-text in the respective table I want it for first.
Edit2: I created a new DB, and Full-Text was enabled. I guess the problem with my old one is that it was converted from 2000 to 2005.

Hi neitakk,

Can you open a support ticket by emailing support @ stormhosts.com w/ the dB name? We can start looking this over and I believe you are correct; if the dB was moved from MS SQL 2000 we probably have some tweaks for Full-Text Search in MS SQL 2005. Please drop us a line and we can research this.

Best wishes.
